About Blooms

Liz and Her Husband, Roger, and their daughter

Our Story

Blooms was envisioned in 2015 by Elizabeth Blaikie. As the eldest daughter of Bob, she grew up in the greenhouses of Lancaster Gardens, learning the difference between a marigold and a petunia from a young age.  Her interest in art and design and all things beautiful grew with age. After graduating from Wentworth with a degree in architecture, she ended up focusing on building her family.

Now, with her daughter in school and the itch to put her design skills back to use, Blooms has become the perfect combination of her interest in nature, her mad crafting skills, and her keen eye for design.

"I love how every celebration brings out something new, and can't wait to bring your unique vision to life. By letting the seasons and flowers guide me, I am able to provide one-of-a-kind arrangements and floral decor for any occasion." -Liz Blaikie

Whether you simply need an assortment of succulent favors or dream of Pinterest worthy peonies on every surface, Blooms can help!

Our Philosophy

Blooms was started with the idea to bring another option to floral decor. In a business based on ephemeral beauty, our focus is on being as eco-friendly and budget savvy as possible, while still providing high quality products and custom designs.

Our practice includes:

  • Sourcing local, seasonal, farm direct or certified sustainably grown flowers

  • Recycling vessels and plants through our rental program

  • Mixing in homegrown, seasonal, potted plants and arrangements to ensure some décor will last long after the party

  • Crafting and DIY supply services, advice and inspiration

  • Servicing the local Massachusetts and New England community, never affiliated with national wire services

  • Ordering fresh cut flowers on an as-needed, made-to-order basis only, reducing waste

  • Composting all stems, leaves and floral waste, never thrown in the trash

  • How much do you charge?
This is the #1 question everybody asks and the answer is never the same. Not because we don't know, but because we don't follow any standard 'recipes'. Every event is custom designed for you and truly unique. For all you numbers people, the 'average' wedding typically runs anywhere from $1,500-$2,500. For extravagant, Pinterest worthy flowers everywhere, larger budgets are expected, however we have worked with smaller budgets beautifully as well. Our product depends on how simple or grand your plans are. After we learn more about your unique event, your vision for it, and your intended budget, we will provide you with a free proposal detailing what you can expect for your money. From there, you decide to move forward by saving your date, and then we can start designing all the glorious details. Inquire today to set up a FREE, no-obligation, quick and easy consultation!
  • How far in advance should I inquire?
At Blooms, we are committed to only taking on one event per date. With that being said, as long as we have your date open, and at least 48 hours notice, we are happy to help however we can. Although we can book weddings and large events up to 18 months in advance, the design process will really begin after you have your venue, colors and overall style decided upon. We use our floral decor to set the overall tone and feel of an event. A perfectly placed focal piece, colors that pop off their surroundings, intriguing centerpieces, and a picture perfect bouquet are just some of the details we enhance at your event. Once your overall vision is decided, we come in with the finishing floral touches.
  • How does your rental program work?
When planning an event, we want to offer the most affordable options to our clients. One way we can do this is by renting decor items, as well as the vessels our arrangements come in. This not only reduces the price for each arrangement, but also saves you from having thirteen matching vases, and a 'Sign our Guestbook' sign, lingering around after your event. It's Simple: 1. Choose from our wide variety of items 2. Enjoy during your event 3. Transfer any flowers when you get home 4. Chose Drop-Off or Pick-up to get the rented items back to us 5. Save money, the environment, and space in your closet! We have also been known to rent seasonal potted flowers, cacti, and dish gardens for certain events. Inquire today to see what we have in stock, and how we may be able to provide a simple, cost effective solution for your next event. And remember, all rental items always come with an option to purchase. We know there is always that one guest who has to leave with a piece of the party, and that's never a problem when renting.
